How to make a toddler-friendly grazing board

As soon as the weather gets above 18 degrees and the sun is shining, there’s only one type of food on our mind… Picky Bits! Oh, there’s just something so fun about that classic British staple, and it’s perfect for adults and children alike.

Whether you can’t be bothered to cook a ‘proper’ meal for your tot (we’ve all been there!), are planning a picnic party and need to ‘wow’ your little one’s friends, or just want to shake up lunchtimes, try a ‘picky bits’ grazing board for your tot!

The best bit? You can make one in less than ten minutes. Minimal effort, but maximum impact, plus, they are a great way to offer your child a nutritionally diverse mix of tastes, flavours and textures in a fun and informal way.

Here’s how to make the perfect toddler snack grazing board…

Start with Pots for Tots snacks!

The heroes of the grazing board, our range of sweet and savoury snacks! Grab what you need, pop them in the microwave (they take less than a minute to cook!), and load up your plate, platter or board. Spread them out and make sure to leave lots of gaps for all of the other yummy food you’ll add.

Our range of bites are bestsellers for a reason - they offer variety, balance and convenience, all without compromising on nutrition. Take our Cheese & Veggie Frittatas - they are high in protein, contain four different vegetables, and are low in salt and sugar. Plus, our Blueberry Mini Muffins contain only 9.7g of sugar, all of which are naturally occurring from the blueberries and bananas. On the other hand, a supermarket alternative contains 2.5 times more sugar, with sugar being the second ingredient on the ingredients list!

Here’s our full lineup of nutritious snacks:

  • Annabel Karmel Fish Pie Bites
  • Annabel Karmel Cheese & Veggie Frittatas
  • Annabel Karmel Chicken & Veggie Bites
  • Blueberry Mini Muffins
  • Apple & Cinnamon Mini Muffins
  • Cheesy Veg Bites
  • Apricot & Carrot Oat Bites
  • Mini Banana Pancakes
  • Mini Apple Pancakes
  • Courgette & Sweetcorn Bites
  • Broccoli Tots

Now choose your picky bits…

With these grazing boards, you can add whatever you like! Perhaps you have leftovers in the fridge, found some fruit that’s about to turn, or you hope that the novelty of the board will encourage your tot to eat some veggies they wouldn’t usually try.

Here are some ideas of what you could add to your board

(Just remember to serve any food appropriately for the age and stage of your little foodie!)

  • Sliced peppers - the more colours the better!
  • Carrot sticks or circles
  • Cucumber fingers or semi circles
  • Olives - make sure they are pitted or sliced!
  • Plum or cherry tomatoes
  • Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries - all the berries!
  • Grapes, cut into quarters
  • Banana slices
  • Pineapple slices
  • Sliced apple
  • Sugar snap peas
  • Nuts or seeds
  • Breadsticks, crackers or crisps
  • Dips! Think homemade guac, sour cream mixed with some fresh herbs, or hummus

Now arrange your chosen picky bits around your Pots for Tots snacks. You could go with a savoury only platter, a sweet grazing board, or a medley! Depending on how creative you are (and how much time you’ve got on your hands), the possibilities are endless. How about a rainbow platter, cut your fruit into different shapes, or even attempt to create a picture?
